DAY 2 THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

08:30 Pick up close to your hotel – more detailed pick up information will be provided. Today you go with a small bus, max 17 pax to one of the signature tours in Iceland, called the Golden Circle, including a visit to Kerid crater, Fridheimar family run greenhouse farm and horse farm, Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall), Geysir hot spring area and ÞIngvellir national park.

Location visited:

Kerid is now a focal point for tourist activity thanks to the contrast of its blue waters and red lava rock surroundings. It was once believed that Kerið was a volcanic crater created after a large explosion but study of the area showed no evidence of any explosions of the required magnitude had occurred here. Current theories state that Kerið was in fact itself a volcano that emptied its magma reserves and collapsed in on itself.

Fridheimar farm combines aspects of Horticulture with the other passion of its owners, Horses. The farm has a horse breeding program and offers a variety of different horse shows for its guests. You will have a chance to see the horses in the stables and also a visit to the Friðheimar greenhouse where the staff will take you on a special tour that will feature a talk on the difficulties on growing vegetables in a country that is known for its long, dark winters.

Gullfoss , known as the “Golden Falls” is a large waterfall in western Iceland that is fed by the Hvítá river (or white river) and drops a staggering 32 meters over three stages. As you approach the waterfall you cannot immediately see the bottom of the falls leaving you with a visual of water seemingly running into a large void into the earth.

Geysir sometimes known as The Great Geysir, is a geyser in a geothermally active region of western Iceland. It is the first geyser that was ever mentioned in print and as a result the first geyser than many people would have ever heard of. As a result of this the english word ‘geyser’ is actually derived from the name ‘Geysir. Geysir is believed to have been active for around 10,000 years and while it is unable to erupt of its own power currently its sister geyser Strokkur still erupts every 10-15 minutes.

Thingvellir Þingvellir national park (also known as Thingvellir national park) is the the location of the world's first parliament as well as the place where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia are slowly drifting apart from each other.

Duration of tour is 8 hours.

Included in the tour:

Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skogarfoss waterfall are both beautiful waterfalls.. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes Seljalandsfoss so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. We recommend you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to walk behind it. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, was used in the films Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Reynisfjara, known as the black lava sand beach, with the Reynisdrangar rock formations and columnar basalt. It is one of the most spectacular beaches in Iceland but can be dangerous, and we kindly ask our guest not to go too close to the ocean and go by guidelines.

Sólheimajökull glacier - we will walk up to a small lake which has formed in front of the retreating glacier.

Vik village the southermost village in Iceland – a remote seaside village of 300 inhabitants, just below the Katla volcano.

Eldhraun lava field / Kirkjubæjarklaustur Eldhraun lava field, around the village Kirkjubæjarklaustur in South Iceland, formed during the Skaftáreldar massive volcanic eruption in Lakagígar craters in the year 1783. The lava field believed to be around 18 cubic kilometres thick, and it covers around 560 square kilometres of land. The surface looks very beautiful covered with thick green moss mixing in with the sharp lava standing out from underneath. The moss is very sensitive so it is not allowed to walk into the lava field, the best way to explore it is to stop at one of the parking lots nearby the main road. East of Kirkjubæjarlaustur is the fascinating Kirkjugólfið “Church Floor”, an 80 square meters of flat of basalt columns, shaped and formed naturally by the tide and glacial melts.

Skaftafell National Park is located at the South East Coast of Iceland at the roots of Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe. It's difficult to describe the beauty of the area in words, but the scenery in Skaftafell is like no other; here you'll find stunning glaciers, black beaches and some of the highest peaks of Iceland. If you have the time and weather is nice, we encourage the easy hike of 1.5 km hike to Svartifoss waterfall.

Glacier Lagoon with its enormous and ancient icebergs breaking off from Vatnajökull glacier, this natural wonder of Iceland is a sight you absolutely cannot miss. The lagoon produces a feeling of incredible tranquillity as the 1000-1500 year old ice silently drifts into the lake and slowly melts away. The lagoon covers 18 square kilometres (7 square miles) and reaches more than 248 metres (814 ft) at its deepest point. You may recognize the lagoon from scenes in Batman Begins, Tomb Raider and two James Bond movies.

Diamond Beach is a strip of black sand belonging to the greater Breiðamerkursandur glacial plain, located by Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
