I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (also known as FMSMU) is situated in Moscow and represents the largest medical, scientific and clinical complex in Russia. The University proudly holds the position of one of the most prestigious medical universities of Russia. FMSMU is one of the medical universities of Russia recognized by the WHO, MCI, PLAB and other major organizations and countries Sechenov Medical University was one of the first to start the admission of foreign students back in 1949. Nowadays, about 20% of the students are foreign students and this fact has allowed the University to be ranked first in the list of Russian medical universities in terms of the number of foreign students. Training is conducted in Russian, English and French, depending on the type of educational program chosen. Supporting an idea of preventive, healthcare, Sechenov University has its own Sports Center called ‘Burevestnik’ for students and staff members’ use. Nowadays, the Sechenov University’s Central Scientific Library has a unique collection of scientific publications in medicine and healthcare and one of Russia’s best Centers of Library Information Technologies Development and Introduction. The Library is a member of the International federation of Library Association and Institutions (IFLA) and takes part in the international exchange of library materials. The library has evolved into the one of the biggest European centers of scientific medical data. The library contains more than 3 million items of Russian and foreign medical books and journals, including scientific work, translation, theses, abstracts and deposit manuscripts. Every year the library is visited by up to 120,000 specialists from Russia, CIS and far-abroad countries. There are 5000 sq.m. of archives, comfortable reading rooms with over 400 places and a modern IT lounge.
The library maintains the database of medicine and healthcare ‘Russian Medicine’ that comprises over 80% of all published and unpublished materials in the field. It also carries out research activities, gives practical help to other libraries, and provides education for medical libraries staff members.
While getting education, all students are provided with comfortable rooms in a number of hostels. All rooms are provided with the internet access, TV set and other electronics.
